In 1863, President Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation, making all enslaved people free. But while the war went on, many enslaved people had still not gotten word of the good news. Whispers of Jubilee follows Keziah and her brother, Charles as they experience the very first Juneteenth, on June 19th, 1865.

About the Author
Veronica Gonmiah, (Writer, Illustrator) is a Liberian-American visual and performing artist. A Newark, NJ native she has built a strong portfolio as a freelance photographer working throughout the greater Newark arts community. She frequently collaborates with local artists to provide high-quality headshots and photo experiences that highlight their uniqueness and creativity. Her work has been featured in art shows and exhibits throughout Newark and NYC. Her drawings, paintings, and other pieces can be seen featured in a number of short films, published works, and on stage. As a performing artist, her past credits in musical theater include various readings, plays and all shows produced by Aurway. Behind the stage, Veronica also works on the production and technical side in such roles as production manager, stage manager, production designer, and set/costume design for a number of film and theatrical works. She has always had a fascination with the art of children's books since 2005, when she was introduced to the world of children's book writing and illustration by Joanne Burns.
